Living a Fantasy
Living a Fantasy
Have you ever signed on to a fantasy sports league? They exist for all major sports and they come in a zillion different formats. I’ve been playing for about 10 years and I’m one of a group of about 12 to 15 guys who participate. The guy who runs our primary fantasy site is a fireman from upstate New York. Others in the league hale from every geographic area in the U.S. Plus throw in Canada. For several years, we had a guy from one of those mid-Canada provinces who went by the name Gopher. His posts were hilarious. Some of the fantasy spots I’ve done are NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, College Basketball, Bowl games, Golf, NASCAR and March Madness. Practically everything except snowboarding and rodeo. I play on Yahoo and that’s a good site. There are plenty of other options, such as ESPN.com, so check them out and give it a try. You’ll have fun, make some great Internet friends, and have the opportunity to talk smack every day. I’ll post more details in the days to come, giving you some of my InsightSports wisdom.

You forgot to tell them how you can never win in those fantasy leagues. Though they do have a great entertainment value. Hope to see you in the leagues. If you need any fantasy advise, this will be the place to come.
Just ask it.
Jaman
I’ve been at this fantasy sports on Yahoo for a long time—since the fall of 2000 to be exact. I’ve had 95 teams in auto racing, baseball, golf, college basketball, basketball and hockey. I’ve finished in the top three 33 times, including 14 first-place finishes. The best way to do fantasy sports is to find a group of reliable, active guys (or gals) who will play year after year. It’s much better than the public leagues where you get a bunch of guys who are active for awhile and then just give up. I’ve been in a league with Jaman and some other dudes for at least seven years. We play a form of fantasy called survivor. Basically there are 17 or so teams at the start of the season and every week or so the low team gets bounced and the rest of us can pick up his good players. At end of the season the top two survivors have a shootout to see who takes home the trophy (imaginary trophy—not real).
Yes, the “survivor” style groups by far are way more competitive than the dormant public leagues. A few participants have come and gone, but there is a solid core of excellent fantasy players that still exist. Some will go to any extreme to win, wether it be staying up at 3 in the morning est, to get probable pitchers for the next day or a last ditch effort in dropping all of ones players in an attempt to survive on the following day’s score. If any of you want to join please let me know and I will make sure you get sent an invite. We are currently now in the Jaman Ultimate Survivor Challenge I. This started in February with golf, nascar and march madness. Baseball has been added now and soon football, hoops and hockey. Points are awarded to the weekly top 5 scores. Higher points are awarded at the end of each season for the top finishers. The scores for all fantasy sports will be added up and next February we will truely find out who is the ultimate survivor fantasy player. Those scores can be found at www.geocities.com/eastjvlax. Check it out!!!
Another nice thing about these fantasy leagues is that it brings you closer to the games. I have to say that before I got involved in the NASCAR one for example, I would have been hard pressed to come up with the names of mroe than two or three drivers….Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and probably some guy named Bubba or Jimmy Bob. But now I know that it is a serioous sport with really good drivers and pit crews. The only thing they don’t have is pretty chicks as drivers like that have at Indy. But that will change, I’m sure. Wait until Danica wins at Indy next weekend.
